WWE star John Cena appeared on the ESPN Fantasy Focus Podcast on Wednesday to hype the movie
Legendary. Cena was asked by host Nate Ravitz which younger wrestlers are standing out. “Finding talent is not a problem,” Cena said. “I think we have a flux of young talent.”
Cena listed Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase, Kofi Kingston, Wade Barrett, David Otunga, Justin Gabriel, Skip Sheffield, Daniel Bryan, Michael McGillicutty, Husky Harris, Alex Riley, and The Miz. “There is more young talent now than there was in 2002 when there was a similar change of the guard,” Cena said.
Cena was asked to name his favorite match that he’s been involved in. “Man, I’d say that WrestleMania match with Shawn Michaels,” Cena said. “He’s considered the best in-ring performer of all time, and to be able to compete with him for that amount of time at WrestleMania, that was a good thing.”
The interview starts roughly 36 minutes into the show. Cena also discusses Major League Baseball, the NFL, why he doesn’t play fantasy football, and which pro wrestling

John Cena Says He’ll Balance Pro Wrestling And Movies
NEW YORK (CBS) From Hulk Hogan to The Rock, professional wrestlers have been known on occasion to transition to film once reaching household-name status.
And that’s just what’s happening to John Cena, currently one of the most famous WWE personalities, who now stars in the upcoming drama “Legendary” which also stars Danny Glover and Oscar-nominated actress Patricia Clarkson.
Cena has won the WWE Championship a staggering seven times in a row, garnering him the nickname “The Champ.” He’s gained a loyal fan base with his theatrical presentations in the ring and, now, Cena’s hoping to pounce his rivals at the box office.
But, despite his growing film career in previous starring roles in “The Marine” and “12 Rounds,” Cena said in an interview for CBSNews.com’s Ken Lombardi that he’s not giving up on the world of professional wrestling anytime soon.
“I’m not going anyplace. I’ve filmed three movies now with not sacrificing my WWE schedule at all. I have a system that makes it work,” Cena revealed.
“The first movie I filmed was in Australia. And I still flew back and forth and made all of my WWE commitments. So, if I can be that far from home, and still not miss anything, I know it can be done,” he added.
The Champ has certainly kept up a busy schedule as of late as he rigorously promotes “Legendary.” Cena stars as a Mike, a troubled man estranged from his mother (Clarkson) and little brother Cal (Devon Graye) after the death of his father. Mike re-enters the familial loop when the lanky Cal reaches out for advice after joining the high school wrestling team (a sport familiar to Cena). As he awaits the release of “Legendary,” the wrestling star also revealed how he intends to keep up both careers.
“You’ve got to kind of handle life 24 hours at a time. It just takes time management. I enjoy my career at the WWE so I won’t be leaving anytime soon. I am going to do more movies. I can’t wait to kind of explore the possibilities and capabilities of my acting. But, certainly you’ll be able to see me on all WWE programming,” he said.
Assurances aside, fans can see more of Cena when “Legendary,” which was produced by WWE films, opens in limited release on Sept. 10.

Every day a multitude of stars wander through the halls of MTV News to talk about their latest projects and goof around with our intrepid correspondents. But sometimes we catch stars elsewhere, and that’s why we put together Spotted!, a daily compendium of stars in the wild.
Cena wasn’t the only star getting in there, as “The Apprentice” host Donald Trump dropped in on “The Late Show With David Letterman” and Katy Perry paid a visit to ITV in London
Actor, rapper and professional wrestler John Cena spends the bulk of his time staging fantastically entertaining matches on “WWE Raw” every Monday, but on Wednesday (September 1), he traded in his signature jean shorts for a classy suit for a visit to “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.” He was on the show to discuss his upcoming movie “Legendary,” which is set to hit theaters next Friday, September 10. During his chat with the late night comedian and recent Emmy Awards host, Cena talked about his father’s work in the wrestling business (he grapples as “Johnny Fabulous”) and their collective fashion crimes in the ’80s (there was at least one reference to Zubaz). Fallon always seems to get along with wrestlers and Cena is a charismatic, genial guy, so it made for a great interview

Without naming “The Rock” Dwayne Johnson by name, CBS News asked WWE wrestler John Cena in an interview if he’ll eventually leave WWE in favor of pursuing full-time acting. Cena said he’s “not going anyplace” and believes he’ll be able to continue balancing both.
“I’ve filmed three movies now with not sacrificing my WWE schedule at all. I have a system that makes it work,” Cena said. “The first movie I filmed was in Australia. And I still flew back and forth and made all of my WWE commitments. So, if I can be that far from home, and still not miss anything, I know it can be done.”
Cena was interviewed by CBS News to promote “Legendary” coming out September 10. He also said he’ll be filming more upcoming movies trying to stretch himself as an actor. He also talked more about balancing his WWE and acting schedules.
CBS News’s story on Cena includes a line about Cena’s career WWE Title victories, saying, “Cena has won the WWE Championship a staggering seven times in a row.”

Seven-time WWE Champion John Cena recently sat down with UGO to discuss his new movie Legendary (opening Sept. 10), a dramatic departure from his action film roles in 12 Rounds and The Marine. Cena stars as Mike Chetley, a tortured ex-high school state amateur wrestling champ that reconnects with his younger brother (played by Devon Graye) through the sport.
Cena was candid about his legacy as a professional wrestler, taboo subjects in the WWE locker room, his take on MMA and where he sees himself going after he retires from the ring.

A few days before the theatrical release of Legendary, I got the opportunity to take part in a round table press junket with the stars of the movie John Cena, Patricia Clarkson, and Devon Graye. Since this is a wrestling site, I’m only posting the comments made by John Cena during the press conference. For those wondering, I asked I asked him about training advice for aspiring pro wrestlers, his rap song in the film, and whether his co-stars were going to host Monday Night RAW.

- In an interview promoting the “feel good” WWE Films project “Legendary” on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” popular WWE Superstar John Cena put over MTV’s “Jersey Shore” as one of his guilty pleasures.
The reality show came up as a discussion topic following a recurring, “Jersey Shore”-themed Fallon bit, in which he “fist pumps” to a generic house beat played by “Late Night” band The Roots. After Cena congratulated Fallon on making it to three hundred episodes, the band set the beat to chants of “300.” Fallon then congratulated Cena in the wake of WWE’s 900th episode of RAW, at which point, The Roots saluted WWE with the “900? beat treatment.
The two then entered into a discussion about the show, which included a mention of how The Situation’s exaggerated facial expressions portray him as an onlooker watching the show from the outside, rather than as an actual member of the eight person cast. Talk turned to the cast members’ fitness for pro wrestling, at which point, Cena declared that the MTV reality stars would definitely be at home in the world of WWE.
Fallon specifically pointed to Ronnie as someone who could potentially get involved in the ring; Cena joked about Ronnie’s punching power, quoting “one punch, bro, one punch, bro” in reference to an infamous moment on the show in which Ronnie celebrated knocking someone out with a single shot
