NEW ORLEANS — Justice, as prophesied by Dean Ambrose, was ultimately delivered at WWE Elimination Chamber. In a six-man collision between WWE’s top Superstars and its most menacing alliance, The Shield withstood the dream team of John Cena, Ryback and Sheamus, live at the New Orleans Arena. Neither the NBA’s Eastern nor Western All-Star squads could rival the veritable “super team” of Cena, Sheamus and Ryback — the 12-time World Champion heading to the main event of WrestleMania 29, the powerhouse Celtic Warrior who held the World Heavyweight Title for much of 2012, and the white-hot rookie who’s ravenously dined upon competition. But on the grim stage of WWE’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, the Superstar trio stood an endangered species while in the sights of their jackal-like opposition, The Shield. Cena, Sheamus and Ryback employed powerhouse plays like synchronized suplexes and more to wear down their rebel rivals across all four corners of the ring and beyond. Resilient as ever, The Shield countered with ruthlessness and their signature “divide and conquer” technique to decimate Sheamus (who was speared through the barricade), and then outnumber their opponents. The sum total of their scheme: Ryback took the crushing final hit and losing pinfall … and he wasn’t at all happy about it.

Impressive and chillingly vicious, the riot gear–garbed Shield aimed to exact a mission of reparation for a supposed “decade of injustice.” Prime targeted, Cena’s assembled force combatted a group that has torn through an entire roster of competitors, from Team Hell No to Brodus Clay and Tensai, since its debut in November. Perhaps no two men were more so wronged by The Shield’s brand of righteousness than Cena and Ryback, who both were deprived of the WWE Championship following the intervention of Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns in their first appearance at Survivor Series 2012. That night, Shield secretly served CM Punk; at WWE Elimination Chamber, the horde’s plot came full circle as they devastated Cena and Ryback (along with Sheamus) most definitively. The extent to which the Superstar constantly wanting to be fed more may have consumed more than even he can swallow from the triumvirate of insurgents.

PHOENIX — On New Year’s Eve, John Cena made a promise to himself and to the WWE Universe: After a disastrous 2012, the Cenation leader vowed to turn things around and make 2013 his year. Tonight, the 10-time WWE Champion took a big step in that direction, outlasting 29 other Superstars to win the Royal Rumble Match and earn a World Title opportunity against the champion of his choosing at WrestleMania 29 on April 7. It was only fitting, perhaps, that the road to Cena’s big win began with the very Superstar to whom the Cenation leader made his now-prescient New Year’s toast, as Dolph Ziggler chose to enter the over-the-top-rope challenge at No. 1. But it was the emergence of the No. 2 entrant just 90 seconds later that sent the WWE Universe in Phoenix into a frenzy. When the familiar strands of “Break the Walls Down” blared and the lights went out, Chris Jericho made his shocking return to WWE.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — John Cena promised on Twitter that history would be made at WWE TLC. Little did he realize that history would be made at his expense. In a turn of events that left more than 15,000 rowdy New Yorkers in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center uncharacteristically speechless, AJ Lee inserted herself into the Ladder Match for Dolph Ziggler’s World Heavyweight Championship Money in the Bank contract and helped The Showoff defeat John Cena by intentionally pushing the Cenation leader off the top of a ladder. It was the last thing the WWE Universe expected from the woman they had just voted Diva of the Year on WWE.com’s Slammy Awards, especially after her intensely personal confrontation with Ziggler only weeks ago. But it proved once again that the only thing predictable about AJ is her unpredictability. Would Dolph have lost his coveted contract were it not for AJ’s efforts? It certainly appeared that way. Although Dolph walked into the biggest match of his career brimming with confidence, the egotistical Superstar from Hollywood, Fla., had difficulty containing Cena. A decade into his WWE tenure, the franchise player was out to prove to Ziggler that it’s one thing to say you belong in the main event — it’s another thing entirely to hang there.

Sneaking away with a victory over John Cena and Ryback in a Triple Threat Match at Survivor Series, the WWE Champion continued his extraordinary, and now yearlong, title reign by the very skin of his teeth. And yet, things may have turned out very differently had it not been for the outside involvement of three individuals who aided The Straight Edge Savior when he needed it most. Targeting the mighty Ryback in the closing moments of this brutal battle, WWE NXT competitors Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns attacked the powerful competitor like rabid dogs before smashing him through an announce table — the second one Ryback crashed through that night. The flagrant assault allowed the WWE Champion to pin a downed Cena, and raised endless questions about their involvement in the main event that remain unanswered. One thing is certain, though: Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns changed the course of WWE history at Survivor Series.

WWE Champion CM Punk vs. John Cena ended in a draw BOSTON – WWE Champion CM Punk and John Cena used every tool in their respective arsenals as they battled to determine which Superstar was truly “Best in the World” in front of the Cenation leader’s hometown Boston crowd. Ultimately, it was Cena’s impressive top rope German suplex that would conclude this brutal bout. Yet, it wasn’t Cena’s arm that was raised in victory at the end of the night.

After Cena began celebrating what appeared to be his 11th WWE Championship victory, referee Chad Patton noted that Cena’s shoulders were also flat on the canvas as the Cenation leader had Punk in a pinned. As explained by ring announcer Justin Roberts, the match had officially ended in a draw … with CM Punk retaining the WWE Title.

LOS ANGELES – Three men entered, three men collided and three men fought. When the dust was settled and all was said and done, CM Punk — on the 274th day of his reign — was still standing tall as the WWE Champion, defeating John Cena and Big Show in a Triple Threat Match at The 25th Anniversary of SummerSlam.

For weeks, the embattled champion had been insisting that WWE had not been affording him due respect as its standard-bearer. He made a particular point of telling Raw General Manager AJ Lee that a Triple Threat Title Match — a contest where Punk would not even have to be pinned to lose his championship — was an extension of that mindset. And when Cena refused to shake Punk’s hand earlier in the week on Raw, The Second City Saint seemed to be in a particularly foul mood heading into WWE’s summer classic.

He was also in a particularly confident one, insisting that he would retain no matter who was in the ring with him. The Voice of the Voiceless proved to be a man of his word, although he had to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat to accomplish the task.

PHOENIX – The last-minute inclusion of a fifth former WWE Champion into the Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a WWE Championship Contract was not enough to deter John Cena, who muscled his way, literally, back into the title picture with a monumental win Sunday. It was a chaotic, ladder-slamming, organ-jarring collision in which the Cenation leader bested not only former WWE Champions Chris Jericho, Kane and Big Show – all of whom were scheduled to compete – but also former champion The Miz, who was named a surprise entrant during the pay-per-view broadcast. Coming out mere hours before the match’s opening bell, The Awesome One – who’s been away from the ring so that he could star in the WWE Studios’ film “The Marine: Homefront” – pledged to make a “sudden impact.”

Standing in his way, however, were four other former champions, including Cena, who vowed for weeks to recommit to regaining the WWE Championship he’s held 10 times previously. Before his outstretched hand could secure the briefcase, however, Cena first had to contend with a formidable field of former champions. The out-of-control battle saw no shortage of highlights, ranging from Jericho’s sleeper hold applied high atop the ladder to a super-sized Attitude Adjustment for Show through the Spanish announce table.

The huge AA was not what ensured victory for Cena. In fact, the maneuver, which came within the first five minutes of the match, only served to set the tone for a barbaric brawl. The impressive feat of strength was only the tip of the iceberg for Cena, who truly had a herculean showing in his first Money in the Bank Ladder Match. Before the final bell rung, he’d unleash his inhuman power in at least one more incredible, contract-securing, display.

John Cena def. Big Show in a Steel Cage Match EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — It took an Attitude Adjustment, some assistance from Mr. McMahon, Brodus Clay and Kofi Kingston, and a little bit of luck, but John Cena did it. In what will be remembered as one of the most harrowing bouts of his career, the Cenation leader overcame a 441-pound giant inside a dangerous steel cage to not only save his own career, but to also end the tyrannical reign of General Manager John Laurinaitis. For the 10-time WWE Champion, few victories will be this sweet.

It was a match the Superstar knew he had to win, but that didn’t make it easy. From the opening bell, Cena attempted to use his awesome power to topple The World’s Largest Athlete, but the nasty giant was not going to be pushed around at No Way Out. Smacking his opponent away in the same manner that King Kong swatted fighter planes from the sky, Big Show appeared shockingly unfazed by Cena’s strength. Instead, the giant controlled the pace of the bout as he took slow pleasure in the destruction of his opponent. The super heavyweight even found the time to flash a cruel smile when he wasn’t sledgehammering his fists into his opponent’s abdomen.
